Yeah! Give a warm welcome back to Intimacy Nice and Queer workshop! We hope to get your minds queerly lubricated to discuss (in a safe, open, and fun group) ways to queer our thinking of intimacy, bodies, pleasure, and relationships. We recognize that in both Staightlandia and LGBTQIA.. Country there can be certain normative assumptions about intimacy and in particular what bodies or relationships are validated as deserving of pleasure, romance, exploration, or love. But, at Queeristan want to celebrate the diversity of sexual expression and intimacy in the queer community and challenge the prejudices, insecurities, and ignorance’s we all hold. We hope that you learn something new, overcome a prejudice, gain confidence, have more questions, host a sensuality session with you friends, share your new knowledge and energy for exploration; whatever it is you learn, overcome, or enjoy, we hope you pass it on.
Two important notes on format: First, the co-facilitators are just that, not leaders and not experts. Second, this is an open-ended workshop where we try to create the topics and discussion around what the group would like to discuss. The workshop will open by creating a safe and friendly environment, followed by a couple of exercises to get the your creative juices flowing, as well as to get comfortable with yourself and the group. This will lead into a discussion of a topic or topics that the group decides together.
Concluding, we will have a review of everyone’s thoughts on the workshop.
The facilitators of this workshop are Cassandra Warren and Maria Serban-Temisan. Warren co-facilitated the first intimacy: nice and queer workshop at Queeristan 2011, and has hosted sensuality parties. Warren is a good listener, team player, and creative thinker, whom likes their marshmallows burnt on the outside, their love sweaty, and their tops less. Serban just finished her workshop about non-monogamy and is excited about the endless possibilities of workshops about gender and sexuality that are just waiting to be organized. Serban is a flexible mate, a sometimes shy, always loving creature, with an endless curiosity about the people around her and the relationships they form with themselves and with the others.
